The Zonta Club of Traverse City held their annual Fall Fashion Show Wednesday in Kirkbride Hall at The Village at Grand Traverse Commons. Co-Chairs Kim Costanza and Tamara DePonio along with their committee worked their magic once again and brought attendees the perfect combo – great food, a great fashion show both on a perfect fall day.
Sue Carlson and Nancy Brick checked in guests on the first floor. Examples from our Pillow Project headed by Judy Conant reminded all that one of the ways our Zonta Club helps those facing breast procedures is by giving them a comforting heart shaped pillow that holds an ice pack. On the event main floor, several vendors tempted shoppers. Raffle sales bring in $$$ and this year’s prizes included a Women’s Heavenly Huffy Bike, a Fitbit Charge HR, and an Apple iPad mini.
Inside Kirkbride Hall each table was adorned by Zontian decorated pumpkins, pink napkins and balloons. Beautiful! Food offerings on the eclectic buffet included Tastes of the Eateries at the Grand Traverse Commons – Higher Grounds Trading Company, Left Foot Charley, MI Farm Market and Underground Cheesecake, Cuppa Joe, PepeNero and Spanglish.
Prior to the start of the Fashion Show, MC Peg Jonkhoff thanked our major sponsors – Cherryland Electric Cooperative, The Center for Plastic Surgery of Northern Michigan, Credit Union One, Kim Costanza, Realtor – Coldwell Banker/Schmidt Realtors. She also thanked Corporate Table Sponsors – Chemical Bank; Dennis, Gartland & Niergarth; NMC; Rehmann; and Traverse City State Bank plus in-kind donors Kim Costanza, Tamara DePonio, Pat Lewellen, Bill Marsh, Ray Minervini, Marissa Vandenberg, and Aaron Wolinski – Avatar Media Productions. Peg shared Zonta’s commitment to Breast Cancer related causes – Munson Medical Center’s Navigator Program, Recovery Plus, Zonta Pillow Project, and our history of giving to Munson Medical Center for projects benefitting women and children. She introduced Ruth Bloomer, Munson Senior Giving Specialist, and Kathy Lewis, Executive Director of Oncology Services, at Munson Healthcare who shared their gratitude for all Zonta does on behalf of Munson.
Then the Fashion Show began! Clothing and accessories from: Backcountry North, Cali’s Cottons, Cherry Hill Boutique, Daisy Jane, Eleven, Friedrich Furs, GLIIK’s, Kay’s, Liana’s, Matilda Jane, Robert Frost, Shley, The Captain’s Quarters, To Have & To Hold, WRC Thrift Store, and Younkers. The models put on an entertaining production with high energy music and smiles all around. I believe it was Peg who referred to it as Beauty and the Beat! Hair and make-up design for the models was provided by Traverse City Beauty College and Luz Lab Salon Suite/China Dukes.
There were many great models but the Zontians were greeted with extra enthusiasm: Sue Noakes, Karla Stretten, Courtney Meyers, former Zontian Pat Raven, and of course Tamara DePonio who always brings it when she walks the runway. There were Zonta children – Dianne Walker’s daughter Shen whom we have watched grow up on the Zonta Fashion Show runway, and Kim Costanza’s girls who are also veterans after last year’s performance. Then there were other familiar models like Maurie Allen owner of Captain’s Quarters who modeled for the 49th year. You can tell he loves it! TV 7 & 4 news and weather staff shared fashions and smiles. Thank you models for all the time you contributed to make this show a success. You were fabulous.
