Through this award, Zonta sponsors one high school girl, who has completed her Junior year, to spend an intensive week at Michigan State University learning first-hand how state and local government works.
The ATHENA Award honors any individual who strives toward the highest levels of personal and professional accomplishment, who excel in their field, devote time and energy to their community in a meaningful way and forge paths of leadership for women to follow.
This $2,500 scholarship is awarded annually through the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation to a local woman pursuing a degree in business or science. The purpose of this scholarship is to improve the status of women in the Grand Traverse Area consistent with Ann’s values and the Zonta Club’s mission. The winner is announced at our Hats Off to Women Luncheon in May.
Since 1938, Zonta International has been honoring this famed aviator member by providing women pursuing doctoral degrees in aerospace, aerospace-related sciences, or aerospace-related engineering with scholarships. Locally, Zonta celebrates Amelia Earhart Day, January 11th, by awarding a scholarship to a female flight or technical division student.
Because Zonta believes in gender equality, the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship program helps women pursue undergraduate and master’s degrees in business management and overcome gender barriers from the classroom to the boardroom.
